It is important to distinguish between the two variations of cinnamon oil, cinnamon bark oil and cinnamon leaf oil. Cinnamon Leaf Oil is considered much safer to use in aromatherapy. Cinnamon bark oil has a spicy smell whereas cinnamon leaf oil is said to smell like cloves.
